Having not been back to Venice in 23 years, and only having been there for one (very full) day the first trip, alone and with a film camera, I was raring to go when I returned in late June 2009. This time, I had some acquaintances along and a good digital camera. I was there for several days, though not all consecutive. We stayed at a small town west of Venice which was a half-hour train ride away.
I took a lot of pictures - more everyday than I ever have on any other trip I've ever taken. Partly it was just the novelty of using a fairly high end DSLR. But I loved the light, the colors, the people, the architecture - I just loved Venice. Everything is vibrant, and that is what I tried to capture.
Below are the results for the first day. Included midway through are some blue pictures indoors at an exhibit by a rock band. I believe they are the "Arctic Cowboys," but I could be very much mistaken. Their show was down some alleyway, and we stopped there during our meanderings.
This page really is intended just as a repository for my high-resolution collection, but it is open to public view because maybe someone like you is curious what a visitor sees in Venice. If you like any of the pictures and want to use it for something, drop me a comment and let me know. I can't imagine it would be a problem with proper attribution or some arrangement.
I find it amusing that the gondolier appears to be on his cell phone.
